Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Gong Xi Fa Cai, which literally means "Blessings of Great Fortune", is commonly used as a greeting during Chinese New Year wishing a person abundant wealth in the coming year.

We went to Chinatown to see how Singapore celebrates and the place was jam-packed with people, both local residents observing a tradition and curious foreigners like us.

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

Nice orchids for sale.

The crowd enjoying the nightly stage show in Kreta Ayer Square.

Overhead decorations

God of Fortune statue and mascot

Ox displays

People waiting for their favorite celebrities and the new year.

I wasn't able to get pictures of the fireworks since the group got tired of standing and waiting and decided to leave early. We also wanted to avoid the huge crowd that would later be rushing to get home. Now that I know what it's like, I can prepare better next year. :)
